About David McClary

David S.W. McClary is the owner and principal of Willowbrook Capital Advisors, LLC, a registered investment advisory, and Willowbrook Capital Management, LLC, which serves as general partner and portfolio manager for Willowbrook Fund, L.P. an opportunistic long-short hedge fund.

Mr. McClary is a 30-year veteran of the financial securities industry. After earning a bachelor’s degree in business from Vanderbilt University in 1979, he joined Merrill Lynch & Co. in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he obtained the appropriate securities licenses and began his career as a private-client registered representative.

In 1983, he moved to New York City to work with Oppenheimer & Co., Inc., where he achieved the position of senior vice president and limited partner in the firm. At Oppenheimer, Mr. McClary worked with an international client base which included private institutions, corporations, family offices and high net worth individuals.

Based on family lifestyle considerations, he left Oppenheimer in 1990 and joined Paine Webber in Nashville, Tenn., as a senior vice president before being recruited to join Equitable Securities in Nashville, where he was a first vice president and shareholder until 2000. Following the acquisition of Equitable Securities by SunTrust Banks, Mr. McClary accepted an offer to be one of two financial executives in the inaugural launch of the Lehman Brothers, Inc. office in Nashville.

Mr. McClary transitioned from the sell side of the financial services industry to the buy side in November 2002, when he joined ETG, LLC, a New York-based proprietary trading firm, and established an office in Franklin, Tenn. He remained with the firm during its acquisition by Schonfeld Securities, and when Schonfeld began consolidating its proprietary operations in 2006, Mr. McClary saw an opportunity to launch his own venture, Willowbrook Fund, L.P. and Willowbrook Capital Management, LLC.

In 2011, Willowbrook Fund, L.P., was recognized by Morningstar as among the top two percent of all equity long-short hedge funds reporting five-year performance.

Willowbrook Capital Advisors, LLC, a registered investment advisor, was formed in September 2009. The registered investment advisory was the result of numerous requests from investors seeking alternative investment opportunities with lower barriers to entry than those encountered in the accredited investor hedge fund universe.

McClary serves on the board of directors of Firefly BioWorks, Inc. (www.fireflybio.com), a biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Mass., that focuses on developing instruments and molecular diagnostic assays for the rapid detection of clinically relevant biomarkers. Shareholders of Firefly include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and several prominent biotechnology industry investors and professionals.

He lives in Franklin, Tenn., with his wife, Alice. Their son, Cain, is a fourth-year medical student at Tulane University in New Orleans.
